Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier names four Man Utd stars who have impressed him ahead of Carabao Cup final
Kieran Trippier has picked out four Manchester United players who have stood out for him this season, but says Newcastle will be focussing on their own game when they meet the Red Devils in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
The Magpies are aiming to win the League Cup for the first time in their history and a first major trophy since the FA Cup in 1955 when they head to Wembley this weekend.
They will be the underdogs against an in-form Manchester United side, but do have the benefit of the Red Devils playing Barcelona in the Europa League on Thursday night, which is a significant distraction for Erik ten Hag and his men.
Trippier knows the Manchester United squad is full of quality and has named Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Luke Shaw as four men who have stood out so far this season as Ten Hag sets the club on the path back towards success.
‘I know Marcus very well,’ Trippier told Chronicle Live. ‘I’m really happy for him because I’ve always known how unbelievable he is and he’s certainly hit some form. But it’s not about one individual – you’ve got Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Luke Shaw, who’s been unbelievable this season as well.
‘We can’t be too focused on them. Obviously, we need to review them, of course, but we need to focus on how we can hurt them. We want to go into that final to win. That’s our only priority.’
