“Wake Me When the War Is Over” is a 1969 comedy television film set during World War II. The story follows Lieutenant Roger Carrington, an American soldier stationed in Europe, who accidentally ends up behind enemy lines in Germany. After mistakenly believing the war is still ongoing, he is taken in by a German baroness who falls in love with him and decides to hide him from the rest of the world. Unaware of the war’s end, Carrington spends years in the baroness’s castle, living in relative comfort and oblivious to the outside world. The film humorously explores his attempts to escape his predicament, his quirky interactions with the baroness and the local townspeople, and the misunderstandings that arise from his mistaken belief. The movie is a light-hearted satire, highlighting the absurdity of war and the unexpected bonds formed in its wake.
