Tears Of The Kingdom is now third best-selling Zelda ever – Games charts 3 June

Box sales of Tears Of The Kingdom have passed all but two games in the UK, as the new Zelda keeps Street Fighter 6 from the number one spot.

It’s only been out for three weeks but Tears Of The Kingdom has already passed the boxed sales for every Zelda game except Breath Of The Wild and Twilight Princess in the UK. Which is more of an achievement than it might seem as, even on Nintendo Switch, digital sales take an increasing percentage of sales, so it’s increasingly difficult for sequels to outsell their predecessors.

Worldwide, Tears Of The Kingdom is already the second best-selling game of the series, with 10 million sales, and the game has been successful enough in the UK to keep the warmly received Street Fighter 6 off the UK number one spot.

Street Fighter is the sort of game that would expect to see the majority of its sales go digital, which accounts for its poor performance in the physical sales charts. But even then 87% of sales were for the PlayStation 4 and 5 versions, with just 13% for Xbox.
