Max Turner (Paddy Bever) is currently behind bars at an STC, following his involvement in an extremism gang in Coronation Street.
The teen was manipulated and groomed by Griff (Michael Condron), who isolated and instructed Max to create propaganda videos for the gang’s social media platforms.
Max ended up getting arrested after Alya (Sair Khan) was stabbed by Blake, the school pupil who ended up believing the same right-wing views as Max because he had watched the clips online.
Alya being hospitalised and the bomb being found in the Speed Daal van was enough for Max to realise that he needed to face the consequences for his actions, but with Paddy Bever not actually leaving the role anytime soon, it means the troubled character will soon be back in Weatherfield.
As he attempts to make amends with the people he’s hurt, one person he will have to face is Alya, who has been left traumatised as a result of the actions from Max and the gang.
According to Sair Khan, seeing Max again will stir up so many emotions for her character, who certainly won’t be happy that he’s returned without facing a longer sentence.
‘His sentence is nothing like she thought it would be’, she told Metro.co.uk.
‘The last time she saw him, they didn’t end on good terms, she did say that she only saw him in prison for her own healing, not his, she feels that nothing has changed when he gets out, he’s still living next door, she’s still coming to terms with it all as well. I don’t think she is over everything that happened.’
‘So many people were happy that I got to do so many stunts!’, Sair added, reflecting on the storyline.
‘You want to see the likes of Alya succeed and bring down evil, that’s what the gang were, and we had a lot of support from the audience in that storyline and it’s always really good when the audience are in on it from the beginning, they know everything.
‘It was really important for the audience to know that side, and also to see how Max was manipulated, it all happens so slowly and in isolation, some of those moments you wouldn’t think twice about or double check, so once the audience sees something like that, they’ll learn of the cues to look out for if someone might be in a vulnerable situation.’
After this storyline, Sair was given the fantastic news that she’s made the longlist for the Best Leading Performer at this year’s British Soap Awards.
‘It’s so love ly to be acknowledged’, she said, reacting to the nomination.
‘Obviously, I’ve been on this show like nine years now! With so many amazing storylines across all the soaps this year, it’s really nice to get that little nod and I’m so happy for my co-stars as well.’
