Piers Morgan reportedly ‘felt let down’ by his co-star and TV wife Susanna Reid following his notorious exit from Good Morning Britain.
The 57-year-old dramatically quit the morning programme in March 2021 after thousands complained about his remarks concerning Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, following her televised, headline-grabbing interview with Oprah Winfrey.
After he and weatherman Alex Beresford argued on-air about his comments, Piers promptly stormed off set, shortly before it was revealed he’d left the show for good.
Following the controversy surrounding Gary Lineker and the BBC, which saw Gary’s co-stars Alan Shearer and Ian Wright refusing to appear on Match of the Day in support of the football pundit, a fan asked Piers if he was ‘disappointed’ that his former colleagues didn’t back him the same way.
The Uncensored presenter replied: ‘Would have been nice to see the same solidarity.’
According to reports, Piers’ comment was actually a ‘cheeky dig’ at Susanna.
‘He feels not just the TV executives should have been more supportive, but his co-hosts – including Susanna – should have been, too,’ a source shared.
‘No one came out and backed him, only his family, no one he worked side by side with. He felt let down,’ the insider added to OK!
For five years, Piers and Susanna were unstoppable as a partnership, beating BBC Breakfast in the ratings for the first time ever on the day that Piers left the show.
Reflecting on his departure, she said at the time: ‘We stay in touch and he’s a really important person in my life. We had such an amazing time and that was an incredible dynamic.
‘He really put his imprint on the programme and it was very powerful. I remember early on, the rows about the role of women and feminism, and those arguments felt like the big issue at the time, and then, of course, we moved on to Brexit and Trump.
