Union J have issued a statement of apology to their fans after their upcoming tour was quietly cancelled over the weekend sparking outrage.

The group, who shot to fame on The X Factor in 2012 before officially disbanding in 2019, were due to reunite for a special set of shows across the UK this spring.

However, many were left angry and disappointed after allegedly receiving emails from Ticketmaster alerting them to the news that that their tickets had been refunded.

The band, which originally consisted of members JJ Hamblett, Jaymi Hensley, George Shelley and Josh Cuthbert, finally addressed the palaver in a statement shared on Instagram Stories.

Posting to their official page on Sunday afternoon, they said they were ‘beyond gutted’ and vowed to make it up to their supporters.

The statement began: ‘Hi everyone! We just want you to know we’re beyond gutted that the tour has been cancelled.

‘We were strongly advised not to say anything, however we now realise that wasn’t the best decision or advice.

‘We are really sorry for any upset that has caused. We will bring you more news as soon a we can.’

The statement continued: ‘We really do love and appreciate our fans more than anything and playing for you live is what we live for.

‘Once again, a million apologies, this has been a tough weekend for us all as well as for you guys. We will make it up to you soon.’

Union J’s official post came days after confused fans voiced uproar at learning about the cancellation through Ticketmaster and not from the band themselves.

‘I had email and a text to say 31 May concert and whole tour is cancelled I’m hoping you guys will put an official announcement up for us,’ one wrote on Instagram.

‘My daughter is crying her eyes out right now we were going to meet you for first time please please guys tell us officially.’ (sic)

Another added: ‘Safe to say I won’t be risking losing any more money on this band in the future now! Yeah we’ve got refunds but some of us have lost money in travel and hotels😩 had a feeling this would happen but it’s been handled horrendously!’

Union J were put together as a four-piece on Simon Cowell’s ITV talent show X Factor alongside Shelley, who quit the group in 2016.
