A disoriented Sam Patterson had to be physically restrained by referee Marc Goddard suffering a vicious knockout defeat to Yanal Ashmoz at UFC 286.
With both men making their debuts for the promotion, Ashmoz produced a sensational finish in the first round of their lightweight contest, flooring the English fighter with a huge overhand right at the O2 Arena on Saturday.
Ahmoz swarmed in to land a series of heavy shots on the ground to end the contest.
A clearly hurt Patterson then tried to climb to his feet and appeared to try and grabble referee Goddard who was clearly concerned for the fighter’s well-being after taking such heavy damage.
The 26-year-old continued trying to fight on as Ashmoz celebrated in the ring with his team and medical staff tending to him.
It was Patterson’s first defeat in the cage since November 2017.
Patterson and Ashmoz were fighting on the undercard of Leon Edwards’ welterweight title defence against Kamaru Usman in the capital.
