Rio Ferdinand believes Chelsea will go all out to buy Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer with Harry Kane top of Manchester United’s striker list.
United have made signing a new striker their top priority this summer with Kane and Osimhen two options under consideration, along with Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos.
Chelsea however are also expected to be in the market for a new centre forward and have also been credited with interest in the Napoli star.
And amid reports suggesting Erik ten Hag has made Kane his first choice target, former United defender Ferdinand expects Chelsea to be in for Osimhen this summer.
‘I reckon Chelsea this summer go for Osimhen,’ Ferdinand told Five. ‘Man United are going for Harry Kane. Harry Kane isn’t going to Chelsea from Spurs, no chance.’
Kane will have one year left on his contract at Tottenham come the end of the season with his future under scrutiny once again following his side’s limp Champions League exit at the last 16 stage last week.
Recent reports suggest that while ten Hag is eager to sign the England captain, United may be reluctant to make a move given Tottenham’s reluctance to sell and the difficulty of dealing with club chairman Daniel Levy.
Ferdinand believes Kane must now make a clear statement of intent over his future.
‘If you play football as a young kid, what is your goal? To win trophies,’ Ferdinand continued.
That doesn’t change as you get older, you want to win trophies, if you can. Not everyone has the opportunity because they don’t play for the right clubs, then you start changing your goals.
