Liam Gallagher claims brother Noel Gallagher has called him ‘begging for forgiveness’ and wants to meet up
Liam Gallagher has claimed his estranged brother Noel Gallagher called him ‘begging for forgiveness.’
The pair are notoriously on bad terms, having been feuding for years despite having created one of the world’s most successful bands through Oasis.
And while fans still regularly ask if there’s any hope of an Oasis reunion, each year the chances get slimmer and slimmer, with neither brother seeming to be willing to make up.
(As an example, Liam recently slammed Noel as an ‘angry squirt’ for ‘blocking’ the use of Oasis songs in his Knebworth 22 documentary.)
Now Liam has claimed that Noel – who has just split from wife Sara MacDonald after 22 years together – called him ‘begging’ for his forgiveness.
Taking to Twiter this week, Liam wrote: ‘Just had RKID (Noel) on the phone begging for forgiveness bless him wants to meet up (sic).’
He added by asking his 3.6 million followers: ‘What Dya reckon meet up or f*** him off.’
Liam often replies to fans on social media, though usually what he says has to be taken with a pinch of salt: this week alone he told a fan he’d be up for an Oasis reunion as there’s ‘f*** all else going on this year.’
He also responded to a headline where Noel said he would ‘never say never’ to an Oasis reunion by writing: ‘Yeah he never tells porkys (sic).’
After his most recent tweet however, fans flocked to the comments urging him to meet up with his brother and put the past behind them.
Emmerdale actor Jay Kontzle was among those pleading with the famous dup to reconcile, writing: ‘You may not get on or relive the old days but life’s too short and it would mean more to your family than anyone else.’
Others demanded simply: ‘MEET HIM!’
Oasis have sold over 70 million albums worldwide with their debut album Definitely Maybe becoming the fastest-selling debut album of all time in the UK when it was released in 1994.
Noel broke fans’ hearts in October last year when he said there was ‘no point’ in the band getting back together, after things ended permanently in 2009 thanks to the brothers’ feud.
He told the Pub Talk show: ‘If we got back together there would be a circus – and there’s no point. Just leave it as it is. I’m happy. He’s (Liam) doing his thing. He’s still selling out Knebworth. It’s like, mate, good luck to you, do you know what I mean?’
While Noel might be indifferent to an Oasis reunion – and the brothers are still not on speaking terms with one another – Liam told the Times in February that he would ‘love’ to see the band back together.
He explained: ‘If it happens, it happens. But I’m quite happy doing [my solo career] . We should never have split up, but we did, and this is where we’re at.’
Meanwhile, Noel is currently dealing with the fall-out to his split from wife Sara, with whom he shares two children: Donovan, 15, and 12-year-old Sonny.
It’s believed Liam and Sara did not get along, and the musician did not attend the pair’s wedding in the Lime Wood Hotel in Hamshire in 2011.
Sara revealed in 2020 that neither of their sons had met their uncle Liam.
