Sarah Lancashire has been captivating audiences as tough, no-nonsense police sergeant Catherine Cawood in Happy Valley.

The 58-year-old, who has starred in a number of huge TV series’ over the years, reprised her role as Catherine in the BAFTA award-winning crime drama, which returned to BBC One this month for its final series.

Much like the previous two seasons’, Last Tango in Halifax star Sarah has stunned viewers with her divine acting and superb dialogue delivery, with fans hailing her as the best actress of all time, and we couldn’t agree more.

Sarah, 58, famously rose to fame on Coronation Street as Raquel Watts, which is something a number of online users have been discussing as of late following her award-worthy performances on Happy Valley.

The Julia actress played Raquel on the ITV soap between 1991 and 1996, before making a one-off return in 2000 for a special two-hander episodes opposite on-screen love interest Curly Watts.

Barmaid Raquel proved popular with viewers, and would become one of the long-running serial drama’s most iconic characters of the 90s.

But Did you know that Raquel wasn’t the only character that Sarah portrayed on the cobbles?

The Where The Heart Is star made her TV debut on the nation’s most famous street back in 1987, four years before Raquel, playing a completely different character named Wendy Farmer.

Wendy was a nurse who arrived in the Rovers Return looking for Jack Duckworth, who was going under the alias of Vince at the time.

The character had read Jack’s advertisement about looking for a lodger at No.9, and hoped to move to acquire the room.

Jack was delighted at the prospect of Wendy moving in.

Vera, however, had a lot to say on the matter, and ultimately refused to let Wendy take the room, much to Jack’s horror.

Wendy appeared in just the one episode, airing on November 11 of its respective year. Sarah would subsequently return to the cobbles four years later as Raquel.

The acclaimed TV star has achieved huge success in the industry following her roles on Coronation Street, landing leading parts in dramas including Where The Heart Is and Clocking Off.

Her sublime performances in Last Tango In Halifax and Happy Valley, both dramas penned Sally Wainwright, who was previously a writer on Corrie, have led to her earning a string of awards.

Happy Valley concludes in February, bringing the thrilling tale of protagonist Catherine Cawood to an end after nine years, and we’re not ready to say goodbye.

Happy Valley airs Sunday nights at 9pm on BBC One.
