Netflix is known to add new seasons of ABC’s long-running medical drama in the United States and Canada. Will there be a 20th season of Grey’s Anatomy and when will it be available for streaming on Netflix? Let’s find out.
Having premiered in 2005, this enduring ABC series was renewed for a 20th season in March 2023, with Meg Marinis taking over as showrunner from Krista Vernoff, who has been in charge since season 16.
The new season will feature James Pickens Jr., Chandra Wilson, Kevin McKidd, Kim Raver, and Caterina Scorsone.
When will Season 20 of Grey’s Anatomy premiere on ABC?
Before it arrives on Netflix, Grey’s Anatomy airs on ABC and can be watched on Hulu in the US as catch-up.
However, the show has been impacted by the ongoing strikes of both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA. Production for the new season was set to begin in the summer of 2023, but the strikes have caused delays.
Consequently, the show won’t be airing in its usual Fall time slot on ABC, as confirmed by the network’s schedule release in August. The return to TV depends on the resolution of the strike.
Purely speculating, the earliest possibility for the show’s return might be as a mid-season replacement, although the likelihood of this is decreasing. Alternatively, it could be pushed back to the Fall 2024 season.

When will Season 20 of Grey’s Anatomy be available on Netflix?
Grey’s Anatomy continues to be added to Netflix under a previous output deal with ABC, which licensed most of the network’s scripted television series. While this deal has since ended, Grey’s Anatomy remains the only title still being added. The reason for Disney not buying out the deal is unclear, and it is even less likely to happen now given Disney’s financial pressures.
As for the release date on Netflix for the 20th season, previous seasons usually arrive in the summer, a few months after the season finale airs on ABC.
However, due to recent delays, the release has been pushed back in recent years. With the strikes, it is unlikely that season 20 will be available on Netflix in the US or Canada until late 2024, or even 2025.
