Harold Bishop receives significant news upon Neighbours’ return, followed by scenes where he makes a substantial confession (Picture: Amazon Freevee)Grief and calamity appear to be looming as Neighbours makes its comeback on screens next month, with long-standing Ramsay Street resident Harold Bishop (Ian Smith) sharing devastating information.
Neighbours, which was oddly terminated by Channel 5 last year in favor of ‘original UK drama’, was rescued by Amazon’s ad-supported streaming service Freevee shortly after its conclusion and is scheduled to return on September 18.
We understand the anticipation, we’re eagerly counting down the days as well.
However, while there are various reasons to rejoice, such as an unexpected wedding that will kickstart the grand return involving an unidentified bride and groom, not to mention a major twist, there is ultimately sorrow in store – specifically for one resident.
We are, of course, referring to the iconic Harold Bishop, who will make appearances as a recurring character during the revived run of the show.
The previous café proprietor’s behavior will arouse the interest of his long-time friend and physician Karl Kennedy (Alan Fletcher), who observes in the opening episodes of Neighbours’ new phase that something is amiss.
Karl makes it his mission to get to the bottom of the matter, deeply concerned about Harold’s well-being, as the legend’s actions set off serious alarm bells for the doctor.
Subsequently, Harold makes a devastating confession, leaving his loved ones completely speechless.
The question is: what exactly has Harold unveiled?
Has he received heart-wrenching health news? Is tragedy on the horizon? Is Neighbours poised to witness the demise of one of its most significant characters?
That remains to be seen, but after several weeks, Harold finds solace and support from his closest friends, just as has always been the case on Ramsay Street, with his concerns for the future reaching a breaking point.

Harold shares melancholic news with his loved ones (Picture: Amazon Freevee)This storyline was hinted at in the show’s latest trailer, where a devastated Harold confides in Karl that he “can’t make it stop,” as he looks around the street that had always felt like home to him, clutching tightly onto the History of Ramsay Street book, which played a pivotal role in the final episodes on broadcast TV last year.
With the return of Neighbours, will fans have to bid farewell to one of the series’ most iconic characters ever? Let’s hope not!
