At £230,000, this two-bedroom flat is a bargain for London.
If you’re not into S&M, though, you may need to spend a bit of cash on a makeunder for one kinky-looking part of the property.
Situated in West Park, near Mottingham in the southeast, the first floor apartment comprises 523 square feet, with two bedrooms, an open-plan kitchen lounge, and a large family bathroom.
It also benefits from a private residents’ carpark and newly-fitted kitchen units, as well as no ground rent or service charge.
Pictures show a bright, airy home that could be perfect for a first-time buyer. But as you scroll through, it’s clear that one room was designed with a somewhat specialist usage in mind.
The second bedroom is bedecked in blood red paint and the textured walls appear to be covered in scratches, stippling and crescent moon-shaped plasterwork.
Mirrors then line the walls and ceilings, while boltholes in the floor suggest equipment or apparatus were once housed here.
It’s certainly not standard decor, leading househunters on Reddit to try to work out the purpose of this dungeon-like space.
One person suggested it was a previous owner’s ‘punishment’ room, where a submissive partner would be placed into stocks or a pillory in front of the mirrors, before being whipped or spanked by the dominant partner at such an angle that they could see everything going on.
This hasn’t been confirmed on the property’s listing, although it does seem to be a logical explanation for the unique setup.
Redditors shared their thoughts on the home, including one person who said: ‘I wouldn’t recommend shining a blacklight in there.’
‘It’s like something out of The Shining,’ added another. ‘I’m sure if I squint hard enough I’ll be able to make out the word REDRUM in that mess somewhere.’
Quoting Alan Partridge, a third simply wrote: ‘Lynn, these are sex people.’
That said, the average sale figure in the area over the last year was £489,873 according to Rightmove, so this place is a steal at an aSki Goggles (On Sale Here)ng price of £230,000.
And – putting aside the association with whips and chains – it’s a chain-free sale.
So, if you happen to be into the same sort of extracurricular activities as the previous resident, you can move right into your own ready-made fantasy haven.
