Back in June the broadcaster confirmed it has instructed a barrister to conduct an external review into the facts of Phil’s departure from the breakfast programme after he admitted to lying about having an affair with a much-younger colleague.
Eamonn has been incredibly vocal about his feelings towards Phil since the drama began, branding him a ‘liar’ and claiming he took him and his wife Ruth Langsford for ‘fools’.
The review’s results are set to be made public in coming weeks and has involved ITV staff being questioned about what they knew by Jane Mulcahy KC.
While Phillip’s former co-star Holly Willoughby has been reportedly involved in the enquiry, Eamonn and his wife Ruth have not.
A source shared: ‘Eamonn has extensive knowledge of the atmosphere at This Morning and has said before he thought Phil’s affair was “covered up”.
The insider added to The Sun: The fact he’s not been approached is leading to confusion as he could be key in helping engender change at ITV. If he and Ruth aren’t asked about what they know, it appears the investigation into This Morning and what went on may not be as thorough as people first believed it would be
Last week programmes bossKevin Lygo explained how Mulcahy had been ‘talking to everyone involved’ as she investigates.
‘[She has] taken out phones and looking at every text we’ve sent, including emails and WhatsApps,’ he shared while speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival.
When asked about how ITV handled its duty of care, Lygo said it took the responsibility ‘incredibly seriously’.
‘We haven’t got anything to hide and if we can adapt and change our process to make it better, then we should do it on a continuing basis,’ he added, as reported by Deadline.
‘The most important thing is to get facts and truth, not a hasty judgement.’
