Luke Shaw is a doubt for Manchester United’s final Premier League game of the season as the club sweat on his fitness ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
The left-back was forced off at half-time during Thursday’s 4-1 win over Chelsea, a win that confirmed their place in next season’s Champions League, with Tyrell Malacia brought onto replace him.
United had already lost Antony to injury by that point with the Brazilian winger stretchered off in agony midway through the first-half following an innocuous challenge from Trevoh Chalobah.
Erik ten Hag will have the opportunity to rotate his side against Fulham on Sunday knowing a top four finish is already secured, although a win will guarantee them third place ahead of Newcastle United.
When asked for an update on Shaw at Friday’s press conference, ten Hag told reporters: ‘In this moment? I can’t say if he is available or not for Sunday.’
Early reports suggest Antony could be ruled out for two months but speaking after Thursday’s win over Chelsea, ten Hag gave a more optimistic update on Shaw’s fitness.
In an interview with beIN Sports, he said: ‘It’s difficult always to say, straight after the game, but, yeah, Antony is serious.
‘Luke Shaw, we have to see. I don’t think it’s too bad but we have to wait 24 hours. We’ll have a diagnosis and we will know more.’
Shaw has enjoyed a superb season this term, excelling at both left-back and at centre-half when called upon.
The England international moved inside to partner Raphael Varane at the heart of defence in the league meeting with City in January, helping keep Erling Haaland quiet as United secured a 2-1 win.
United take on neighbours City at Wembley on 3 June.
City will enter that final as Premier League champions, looking to replicate United’s Treble success of 1999 having also booked their place in the Champions League final against Inter.
