There are a number of things that everyone learnt about Swedish superstar Loreen at last night’s Eurovision final.
One, she’s Swedish. Two, she’s got amazing nails. Three, she’s now won Eurovision twice, becoming the second act (and first woman) in history to win the contest more than once.
But if that’s not enough for you, let’s dive a bit deeper into the songstress’ career…
Who is Eurovision winner, Loreen?
Known to the world as Loreen, the Swedish superstar’s full name is Lorine Zineb Nora Talhaoui.
Aged 39, she was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in October 1983 to Moroccan immigrant parents.
She grew up and spent most of her life living in Västerås, a city in central Sweden on the shore of Lake Mälaren.
When did Loreen first start singing?
Loreen’s first crack into showbiz was taking part in Idol in 2004, the first version of Sweden’s take on Pop Idol. Loreen came fourth.
Years later, while working as a producer and director for Swedish reality TV shows, she entered Melodifestivalen 2011 with the song My Heart Is Refusing Me, which became a top 10 hit in Sweden.
Then came 2012. The big one.
Loreen was chosen to represent Sweden at Eurovision that year, and she swept the competition with her dance-banger, Euphoria.
The song won the competition with a total of 372 points and went on to become a bonafide chart hit across the world. Euphoria charted at number three on the UK Official Singles Chart, selling 62,148 copies in its first week.
After the success of Euphoria, Loreen released her first album, Heal, later in 2012. Heal became a platinum seller in Sweden.
Her second album, Ride, came out five years later, reaching number 31 on the Swedish charts.
To support her albums, she headlined two major European tours in 2014 and 2021.
What else has Loreen done?
As well as music, Loreen made her acting debut in JJ+E, a 2021 Swedish film.
In addition to her showbiz credentials, the star is politically active. She has served as the ambassador of the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan and the patron of the World’s Children’s Prize.
Is Loreen in a relationship?
Loreen was in a relationship with Idol 2004 winner Daniel Lindström between 2004 and 2006. Lindström even dedicated his first album after winning Idol to Loreen.
In 2017, Loreen revealed she was bisexual, but didn’t confirm whether she had a boyfriend or a girlfriend at the time.
In March 2021, Loreen revealed that she had a boyfriend but kept the details private.
