Jason Manford has revealed Nana Manford has died at the age of 99 after a battle with dementia.
The comedian, 41, announced his belove d grandmother Leah’s death on Twitter and shared a heartwarming video of them singing along to Nat King Cole songs.
Paying tribute, the father-of-six wrote: ‘Goodnight Nana Manford, we were so lucky to have you in our lives for so long. 99 years of wonderful moments & incredible memories.
‘Even when dementia took hold, she love d music. Whether making cardigans for kids or bullets for Lancaster bombers, she was an inspirational woman.’
Fellow comedians and his followers shared their condolences, with Ed Bryne writing: ‘Aww mate. That’s a beautiful tribute.’
‘What a wonderful lady! I know just how you feel. One of the very last things I did with my glorious mamma on the day she died was to play Elvis to her. She hadn’t been able to speak for a couple of days…but suddenly she gently sang a line of the song. #magical,’ Jennie Bond penned.
In February, Jason shared that Leah had been rushed to hospital hours before he was due to board a plane ahead of his holiday.
He added that he would be cancelling plans to jet off abroad to keep his grandmother company while she spent the night being cared for in A&E.
As a caption for his post, the funnyman penned: ‘Was packing for a holiday 3 hours ago and now in Wythenshawe A&E with Nana Manford! Staff have been incredible & at 99 she is being an absolute trooper! Come on Nana, we gotta get to 100! [sic] ’.
Nana Manford previously featured on the Starstruck judge’s social media back in 2017.
In the sweet video, Jason played Leah his album A Different Stage, following which she was seen wiping away tears.
He captioned the adorable moment: ‘Finally to my grandad and nana Manford – Charlie and Leah – who every Sunday at their house would play so many old songs and tunes from musicals that they became ingrained in my own musical taste to this day.’
The footage captured the pair as they sang along to Jason’s cover of Leah’s favourite song – Perry Como’s 1970 hit It’s Impossible.
‘That’s why I make music, to make older ladies cry,’ the comedian was heard joking in the background on the short video.
