The unfortunate saga of Marvel’s Midnight Suns is about to come to an end, as the game is such a flop it’s had to cancel the Switch version.

You’d think being a Marvel tie-in and one of the best reviewed games of last year would’ve made Marvel’s Midnight Suns a sure-fire hit but sadly it was anything but, with the game proving such a failure it was almost instantly discounted.

Originally there were supposed to be both next gen and last gen versions but the latter never appeared and publisher 2K has announced that the Switch version has now been cancelled.

However, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions will be out on Thursday, May 11, alongside the final piece of DLC for the game.

It’s unclear whether the developers at Firaxis simply couldn’t get the game working on Nintendo’s hardware or if 2K figured a Switch version wouldn’t sell enough units to justify its existence, but it’s probably a bit of both.

Back in February, 2K admitted things hadn’t gone well, although it was optimistic that sales would pick up in the long run, especially with its four DLC expansions adding more heroes and story content.

Speaking of the DLC, its fourth and final slice will be launching alongside the last gen versions, adding Storm of X-Men fame as a playable hero. The previous three expansions for Deadpool, Venom, and Morbius will all be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One from day one.

The fact that all this is dropping just one day before The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, though, may suggest 2K’s faith in Midnight Suns has waned.

More: Gaming

Firaxis is having a bit of a rough time in general at the moment, after the exit of Jake Solomon, creative director on both Midnight Suns and the XCOM series, and studio head Steve Martin.

In what is almost certainly not a coincidence, they left not long after it was clear that Midnight Suns had been a flop. So maybe you shouldn’t expect that sequel that Firaxis blatantly teased at the end of the game.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns launches for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on May 11. It’s currently available for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
