Adele Roberts has shared her inspirational dream to become the fastest person running the London Marathon with a stoma bag.
The Radio 1 DJ is training for a marathon, after announcing in June 2022 that she is cancer free.
Adele underwent chemotherapy for bowel cancer, having been diagnosed in October 2021 and having her tumour removed.
She now lives with a stoma bag, which she’s nicknamed Audrey – but that’s not stopping her from doing anything.
The I’m A Celebrity star has candidly shared her journey throughout her cancer battle with social media followers, and now revealed she’s keen to become the fastest person to run the marathon with a stoma bag, as she trains for this Sunday’s event.
Appearing on Thursday’s Lorraine, Adele, 44, said: ‘I just wanted to do the marathon to reiterate what Dame Deborah said, Rebellious Hope, and it’s my way of standing up to the cancer and just saying, no more please, I’ve had enough.’
Talking about her stoma bag, she jokingly added: ‘My stoma Audrey, she’s a big fan of yours Lorraine, she was a bit excited this morning, but she’s behaving so far.’
Adele went on to show that her stoma bag actually had a mini version of her marathon number sign.
She continued: ‘When I was trying to find tips online on how to train with a stoma, I couldn’t really find much information, so I just thought I’ll just see if anybody has set a Guinness World Record and they haven’t.
‘So we’re going to go for it!’
This comes after she opened up about how lucky she feels to be alive when a year go she couldn’t walk, due to the crippling effects of her cancer diagnosis.
In the lengthy recent post, the star said: ‘I can’t tell everyone enough. This time last year I was being treated for #bowelcancer. A year on I feel so lucky to be alive.
‘When I started having problems I was too embarrassed to call my GP. I thought I was over reacting, I didn’t want to be a burden, I also managed to excuse my symptoms away. I blamed myself.’
The Big Brother personality then told followers to speak to their GP if her words resonate ‘at all’. ‘The earlier you know, the sooner you can get the help you need,’ she added.
‘I hope we have a future where nobody has to die from cancer. It’s a silent killer. It breeds on us not talking about it and pretending it isn’t happening. That’s why I’ll shout about it as much as I can until the day I die.
Please take care of yourselves, check in on your family and friends and encourage them if they need that extra nudge to get help.
‘Thanks to the brilliance of the NHS I’m about 4 weeks away from running the London Marathon… 🤯 and hopefully setting a Guinness World Record in the process. All in less than 12 months since I stopped chemo.
‘Chemotherapy is INTENSE to say the least. This time last year I could barely walk. My hands and feet are still battered from it, my blood still isn’t right – I get out of so breath quickly.’
She continued: ‘I also have an ileostomy (while my large colon continues to heal) so I’m kind of running with my small intestine hanging out my stomach. (I still can’t believe how amazing stomas are – like how are they possible?!) 😂🙌🏽.
‘It’s made training and fuelling for the marathon so much harder and complicated than I imagined… BUT… the chemo helped save my life and I shall remember that every step of the way.’
