Thomas Tuchel is reportedly interested in signing two of his former Chelsea stars – Mateo Kovacic and Edouard Mendy – for Bayern Munich.
On Friday, it was confirmed that Bayern had sacked manager Julian Nagelsmann and appointed Tuchel as his replacement.
The German had been out of work since getting sacked by Chelsea last September, and has signed a contract until 2025 at the Allianz Arena.
His first task will be to keep Bayern’s treble hopes alive with the club a point behind Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and still in contention to win the German Cup and Champions League.
But after that, he will have the chance to reshape the squad his liking and it has been rumoured that he could raid Stamford Bridge once the transfer window opens.
Calciomercato report that Kovacic and Mendy are targets for the Bundesliga giants, with both players tipped to leave west London very soon.
Kovacic has been a key player for the Blues since joining from Real Madrid in 2018 and has even captained Graham Potter’s side in recent games, but his future is currently up in the air.
The Croatian midfielder’s contract is up next year and following Todd Boehly’s lavish spending spree, Stamford Bridge is in need of a clear out, with Manchester City among several clubs keeping an eye on the 28-year-old’s availability.
Goalkeeper Mendy meanwhile joined Chelsea in 2020 and instantly became a fan favourite, playing a key role in Tuchel’s Champions League triumph.
But since then the 31-year-old has struggled for form and this season has been stricken down with injury problems, with Kepa Arrizabalaga taking over as the No.1 keeper.
