Susanna Reid didn’t shy away from mentioning Piers Morgan to mark an important milestone, despite his recent swipe at her.
Today, the Good Morning Britain presenter celebrated two decades presenting on breakfast TV, paying homage to some of the people who have played pivotal roles in her career.
In addition to honouring the late Bill Turnbull, who died last year aged 66 after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, Susanna also gave her former co-host Piers a shoutout.
The TalkTV personality reportedly felt ‘let down’ by Susanna following his exit from GMB, when he refused to apologise for inflammatory comments that he made about Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.
Earlier this month, someone tweeted Piers, 57, to ask: ‘Piers were you disappointed when none of your colleagues didn’t present the day after you left GMB?’ to which he replied: ‘Would have been nice to see the same solidarity.’
It was later claimed by an insider that the broadcaster felt that ‘not just the TV executives should have been more supportive, but his co-hosts – including Susanna – should have been, too’, as they added to OK!: ‘He felt let down.’
Speaking on Wednesday’s GMB, Susanna, 52, said: ‘A huge thank you to Piers Morgan of this parish, five years alongside him.
‘He made me bolder, more argumentative, more difficult I think, more probing, asking the tricky questions and going into battle every morning.’
She continued: ‘Slightly different since then but definitely a big thank you to everyone I’ve presented with over 20 years. Getting up at 3.45 and I’m still here.’
The presenter paid homage to Bill by saying it was a ‘shame’ not to be able to celebrate with him.
