Kelsey Parker has opened up about the difficulties of solo parenting without her husband Tom Parker by her side.
Parker, who was a member of The Wanted, died on March 30 last year aged 33 after a two-year battle with brain cancer.
The pair married in 2018, but little did they know two years later Parker would be diagnosed with glioblastoma, an inoperable brain tumour.
At the time of diagnosis, Parker wrote that he and his family were all ‘absolutely devastated’, but they wanted nothing but ‘love and positivity’ so they could raise awareness of ‘this terrible disease’.
Kelsey, who is mum to Parker’s two children – three-year-old Aurelia, and two-year-old Bodhi – has bravely continued her late husband’s legacy by sharing updates on how she is getting on in the wake of his death.
Now, on Mother’s Day, Kelsey said she had always looked forward to her and Parker ‘growing old together’ and watching their kids grow side-by-side.
She went on to say that being a solo parent has been one of the biggest struggles of the past year, and thanked her ‘special mums’ for helping her through the difficult times.
Kelsey wrote: ‘When I first had Rae never would I’ve thought I’d be a solo parent. I was so looking forward to me & Tom being parents, sharing all the highs & lows, growing old together whilst watching our babies grow.
‘Being a solo parent has possibly been one of the hardest things about this past year. Not having that special person to enjoy everything with, or to take over when it just gets too much.
‘I couldn’t have done it without the special mums in my life. Thank you for sitting with me, for pulling me through and for all you do for me & the kids. You’ll never know how grateful we are for you all ❤️’.
This comes after the mum-of-two shared a candid post about grief on her first birthday without Parker earlier this month.
She wrote of how a year ago Parker was about to go on his final The Wanted tour with bandmates Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness and Nathan Sykes.
