Brian Cox has seemingly questioned Megan Markle’s motives in a new interview.
The Succession star, 76, said the Duchess of Sussex ‘knew what she was getting into’ when marrying into the royal family.
Dundee-born Cox also implied it was unreasonable for mother-of-two Markle, 41, to have expected Prince Harry, 38, to have uprooted his life and move to California.
‘You can’t go into a system where somebody’s already been trained to behave in a certain kind of way and then just expect them to cut themselves off.’
According to MailOnline, Cox added to Haute Living New York: ‘I mean, she knew what she was getting into.’
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who share children Prince Archie, three, and Princess Lilibet, 21 months, famously moved to California less than two years after tying the knot.
Cox is also said to have told the outlet: ‘The childhood dreams of marrying Prince Charming and all that s*** we see as fantasy that could be our lives in our dreams.’
He also reiterated his position as an anti-monarchist.
The comments Cox made in his latest interview appear at odds with his previous remarks about the Sussexes.
Speaking to the Independent in 2020, Cox expressed his sympathy for the royals’ treatment and suggested he wasn’t surprised they had left the UK for the US.
He said at the time: ‘They [some sections of the media] have forced Meghan and Harry to quit the country.
‘Let’s not beat about the bush, they have driven them out, and yes, I have no doubt at all, some of it is racist.’
Cox added: ‘It’s horrible what has happened to them.’
