Police searching for missing X Factor star Levi Davis are considering the idea he may have fallen into the sea.
The rugby player and reality show contestant was last seen on October 29 at The Old Irish Pub in Barcelona, Spain, and has not been in touch with any friends or family since.
Levi had been visiting a friend in Ibiza but travelled to Barcelona on his own.
A large-scale search has been launched for the athlete in the weeks since he disappeared, with his mother among those traveling to Spain from the UK to look for him.
Now police are investigating the possibility that the 24-year-old entered the water at the city’s port.
According to The Daily Mail, investigators are considering the idea that reports of a man in the water at the port in the early hours of October 30 could in fact be the missing man.
It’s understood a man was spotted in the sea, with crew members of a cruise ship throwing him a buoy. However, when police and the coastguard launched a search, nobody was found.
Levi’s passport was found on a beach close by to the port where the man was seen.
Levi’s mother Julia has issued a statement to the outlet where she insisted it was still a missing person’s investigation, and dismissed ‘false and distressing’ reports that her son had owed money to the mafia.
She said: ‘Gang involvement is NOT being considered or investigated at this time as their focus is on facts and concrete evidence … They have now identified who he was last in contact with.
‘This is still a missing persons case, it is NOT and never has been a criminal case and there is not and never has been an imminent arrest.
‘The reports of a man seen in the water in the Port on the morning of the 30th October is now being fully investigated with the help of the other relevant police forces.
‘This is also where his passport was found.’
The singer, who took part on X Factor: Celebrity in 2019, had been visiting a friend in Ibiza before deciding to travel to Barcelona on his own.
His mother Julia previously confessed she was worried his mental health may have ‘deteriorated,’ as her rugby player son had suffered an ACL injury which he worried would affect his career.
Before he left he said ‘I need to go on a break, just sort my head out, have some time to refresh myself,”‘ Julie recalled on Good Morning Britain, explaining her son struggled with ‘doing nothing’ since his injury.
