Farmers point out mistake Jeremy Clarkson keeps making on Diddly Squat
Beady-eyed farmers have noticed something wrong with the way Jeremy Clarkson runs his farm, Diddly Squat.
The hit Amazon show follows ex-Top Gear host Jeremy, 62, as he tries somewhat chaotically to run his thousand-acre Chipping Norton farm.
On the whole, farmers – whether they love or hate the controversial figure – agree the show does a good job of highlighting the plight of an industry fraught with an uncertain future and costly overheads.
Many in the farming community feel seen by the show, which spotlights their struggle to avoid ending up with, well, ‘diddly squat’ at the end of the day.
But recently, Clarkson’s Farm’s farmer fans have noticed an error in his ways – and it’s a mistake that keeps being made by Jeremy’sright-hand man, Kaleb Cooper.
It’s to do with cows and their ear tags and making a pig’s ear of putting them on correctly.
Taking to a farming forum to chat about the mistake, one cattle farmer explained: ‘Like many i am really enjoying Jeremy Clarkson’s new series and taking my time to make it last lol.
‘However am i the only one noticing #kalebcooper putting the calves eartags in the wrong way round.’
Another chimed in, and agreed: ‘Not only one. I noticed that too’. [sic]
A third commented: ‘I said to the other half he put the tags in backwards’.
While another pointed out that some other ‘activities’ in the show are infuriating to watch as a erm, real, farmer, another acknowledged that some parts of the show are made more clunky for entertainment value.
But there wasn’t much of a funny fall-out from putting ear tags in the wrong way around.
Some jumped to the Who Wants to Be A Millionaire host’s defence and said there’s no ‘right and wrong way’ to put on the tags, and some said by doing it the ‘wrong’ way, you can actually see what you’re attaching easier.
Another said: ‘at least they are in the ear, not missing or ripped. Some folks have too much time’.
However, one member of the group warned: ‘so many cattle with ripped ears because put in the wrong way’ [sic] .
Two ear tags are attached to each ear of every calf when they are born; it is a legal requirement to help identify each animal and to prevent and control the outbreak of disease.
There are two, just in case one is ripped off, as they sometimes can be – as some of the farming community were quick to point out.
The ‘female’ side of the tag should be on the inside of the ear, and the ‘male’ part on the outside.
This gives better protection for the tag from being ripped off, as the more bulky part isn’t as easily accessed to the outside world – like perhaps a fence that a cow might scratch on.
The Farming Advisory Service recommends: ‘When using plastic tags the female part should be on the inside/front of the ear with the male part entering from the back of the ear’.
So the farming community was right to call out the presenter on his wrong moo-ve.
This comes after a Clarkson’s Farm star was left in shock as fans raised tens of thousands of pounds for her TB-hit farm, after an outbreak cost her 30 cows.
The presenter hit the headlines last year when he made vile comments about Meghan Markle, who he claimed to hate on a ‘cellular level’.
‘At night, I’m unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, “Shame!” and throw lumps of excrement at her,’ he wrote in his column for The Sun.
The Press Standards Organisation (Ipso) has since launched an investigation into the piece, and the newspaper has apologised.
Despite the controversy, Deadline reported the season two premiere of the programme was watched by nearly 4.3million viewers, according to Barb.
