Richard Gere, 73, assures fans he’s ‘feeling much better’ after being hospitalised with pneumonia in Mexico
Richard Gere has assured worried fans he is feeling ‘much better’ after suffering a health scare in Mexico.
The Hollywood star, 73, had been enjoying a trip to sunny Mexico with his family to celebrate his wife Alejandra’s 40th birthday last week when he fell ill.
Richard, who was also accompanied on the trip by his and Alejandra’s two and four-year-old sons, developed a bad cough and was hospitalised with pneumonia, TMZ reported last week.
Thankfully Richard is believed to have recovered after just one night of hospital treatment, and was discharged the next day with a round of antibiotics.
Richard has apparently been aware of the worry reports of his illness caused, as he has issued a message via wife Alejandra confirming he is feeling much better.
The 40-year-old mum-of-two took to Instagram where she shared a sweet snap of the family walking down a road in the sunshine, Alejandra holding the hand of one of their sons and Richard carrying the other on his shoulders.
Alejandra had previously said the entire family had come down with an illness – though at the time it was unclear whether it was the same as what Richard was suffering from – and now says they have all pretty much recovered.
‘Richard is feeling much better, we are all feeling much better, “almost” back to normal,’ she wrote, thanking the doctors and hospital staff who had treated them.
She revealed the entire family had arrived in Mexico sick, and both Richard and his two-year-old son James had contracted pneumonia, while Alejandra and four-year-old Alexander suffered from sinusitis and ear infections.
The actress also shared an old photo of Pretty Woman star Richard taken in his younger days, of him posing shirtless in tight jeans, and wrote: ‘Richard wanted me to post this second photo to show you that he is feeling much better.’
Fans and friends flooded the comment section, both wishing the family well and noting Richard’s sense of humour.
Richard married Alejandra, a Spanish publicist and activist, in April 2018 with an Indian-inspired wedding on the actor’s ranch in upstate New York.
