Hogwarts Legacy: how to open eye chests
Eye chests are an easy source of quick cash in Hogwarts Legacy, so here’s how to open them without triggering their locking mechanism.
Disillusionment chests, or simply eye chests, are special chests in Hogwarts Legacy that you can find pretty much anywhere in the open world.
From the Restricted Section of the Library in Hogwarts to inside shops in Hogsmeade, these bizzare-looking chests always have their eye on you.
While unlocking eye chests early in the game seems almost impossible, all you need is a basic yet effective charm.
Directly approaching the chests will startle them, causing their cyclopean eye to follow your every move, and block you from opening them.
This means you need to sneak up on eye chests to get access to their goodies, however, your standard crouch won’t be enough for you to catch them off guard.
You need to pair crouching with a Disillusionment charm which isn’t taught in class, unlike most other basic spells and charms.
You can learn the Disillusionment charm from Sebastian Sallow during a main quest called Secrets of the Restricted Section.
Sebastian is a Slytherin student and one of the companions you’ll gain in the game. He’ll teach you the charm by the Central Hall to sneak past some students and into the library.
Once you make it to the Restricted Section, you will be able to cast the charm to open an eye chest for the very first time.
If the eye chest notices you before you cast the charm, you’ll have to walk away and give it some time to go back to an inactive state. You need to cast the charm first and then sneak up on the eye chest to open it.
