Where to watch All Quiet On The Western Front as it scoops impressive 14 Bafta nominations

The German film has been nominated for a staggering 14 Baftas, including best film, director, supporting actor and adapted screenplay.
It ties with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) as the non-English language film with the most nominations ever.
Joining All Quiet on the Western Front in the best film category will be playwright Martin McDonagh’s black comedy The Banshees of Inisherin, Baz Luhrmann’s brilliant biopic Elvis, sci-fi adventure Everything Everywhere All at Once, and Tár, a gripping cancel culture drama by Todd Field.
What is the film about?
The film is based on a book of the same name written in 1928 by German war veteran Erich Maria Remarque, which helped expose the horrors of World War I to the world at the time.
Directed by Edward Berger, this Netflix adaption tells the story of the German soldier Paul Bäumer and his friends who all enthusiastically enlist in the war in its final stages.
Their sense of adventure is understandably short-lived when they arrive on the front line and are met by the harrowing realities of a war that claimed 9.7 million military lives.
Although the original book is classed as fiction, it is based on true events that happened in World War I and the experiences of the soldiers that fought in it.
While most war films we see in the UK are largely concerned with the British effort, All Quiet on the Western Front offers a poignant insight into an ‘enemy’ perspective often overlooked.

Felix Kammerer gives a captivating performance as protagonist Paul Bäumer, while Albrecht Schuch shines in his role as Stanislaus – Paul’s reckless but lovable companion – for which he was nominated best supporting actor.
Daniel Brühl, who starred in the film Rush as F1 legend Niki Lauda, here portrays Matthias Erzberger, a character inserted into the film by Netflix that is based on a real German politician of the same name.

When are the Baftas?
The Baftas will be shown on BBC1 on February 19 at 7.00pm.
The annual event, now in its 76th year, will take place at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London.
Hollywood star Richard E Grant is confirmed to host the ceremony alongside This Morning presenter Alison Hammond, and this year there will be an exciting new element – for the first time ever, the ceremony will culminate in a live broadcast to reveal the final four category winners, enabling audiences at home to be part of the excitement as it happens.
