Wrestler Jay Briscoe’s wife asks for prayers as daughter undergoes major surgery after car crash that killed him
Ring of Honor legend Jay Briscoe’s daughter needs major surgery after both his girls were injured in the car crash that killed him.
The late wrestling champion, whose real name was Jamin Pugh, died on Tuesday (January 17) in the accident and his wife Ashley Pugh has given a heartbreaking update while suggesting 12-year-old Gracie may not walk again.
In a post on Facebook, she called for prayers and gave an update on her family in the wake of the tragedy, while noting their son Gannon is ‘waiting at home’.
She wrote: ‘We need prayers! Gracie is on her way into surgery on her back. Jamin would want the whole world praying for his little girl. WE BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF PRAYER!!
‘Pray for the doctors and everyone working on her! Pray for her precious legs to move again! Pray for Jayleigh who has some pretty serious injuries, but is stable and resting! Pray for Gannon waiting at home!
‘Pray for strength for all of us! We have a long long road ahead of us.’
Briscoe joined ROH in 2002, forming a tag team with his brother Mark, and they went onto to become one of the greatest duos in wrestling history.
They were inducted into Ring of Honor’s inaugural Hall of Fame class in 2022, while he also enjoyed success as a singles star and became the ROH world champion on two occasions.
Briscoe’s death was announced by ROH and All Elite Wrestling (AEW) boss Tony Khan on Twitter.
He wrote: ‘Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away. Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today.
‘Jay and his brother Mark dominated ROH, reigning as champions to this day. We’ll do whatever we can to support his family. Rest In Peace Jamin.’
Following the news, stars from all over wrestling have paid tribute to the ROH Hall of Famer, including WWE boss Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque.
He tweeted: ‘An incredible performer who created a deep connection with wrestling fans across the globe. My condolences to the family and friends of Jay Briscoe.’
Cash Wheeler – who, alongside FTR teammate Dax Hardwood, battled the Briscoes in a modern day classic trilogy which concluded at Final Battle last month – added: ‘I’ve been in tears since I heard the news. I just don’t have the words. Rest in Peace Jay.’
