Wednesday star Jenna Ortega shares theory for crucial season 1 finale cliffhanger after fans sent wild by mystery

Warning: spoilers ahead for Wednesday season 1.
Wednesday star Jenna Ortega has given her two cents on who her character’s mysterious stalker could be from the season 1 finale, as wild fan theories continue to swirl on social media.
In the final episode of the Addams Family spin-off – which will be returning for season 2 – the lead character is being driven home in the family car by their butler Lurch (George Burcea) when she receives a series of menacing messages on her new phone, which was gifted to her by her friend Xavier (Percy Hynes White).
The unknown individual reveals that they’ve been watching Wednesday closely, taking photos of her when she was with Xavier and Tyler.
They send her a text that reads ‘I’m watching you’ with a side-eye emoji, as well as sending an animated version of herself being stabbed through the head.
There’s been much speculation over who the unidentified person could be, with fans trying to figure out who was lurking in the background when they took the photos of Wednesday, Tyler and Xavier.

During a recent interview, Jenna, 20, addressed the conundrum, explaining that when she filmed the scene, she hadn’t given it much thought.
‘Honestly, I have no idea. I’ve gotten that question a couple times now, and I’m so confused,’ she admitted to Digital Spy.
‘I always assumed that it was either Miss Thornhill [Christina Ricci] or Tyler and… I don’t know. Maybe there’s another member of the Gates family that’s still alive or maybe it has no correlation whatsoever.
‘I’m not sure, but I didn’t even question it on the set. I just did it. So I’m curious to know.’
In Wednesday, it was revealed that Miss Thornhill, the botany teacher at Nevermore Academy, was actually Laurel Gates, a descendant of the murderous founder of the town of Jericho, Joseph Crackstone.
Laurel had been controlling Tyler, who turned out to be a Hyde and had committed several murders under her orders.
Both Laurel and Tyler were apprehended by the end of the series, so Jenna’s theory that there could be another member of the Gates family is definitely one to consider.

Fans have also thrown other names into the mix as possible contenders for the stalker, including Wednesday’s best friend Enid (Emma Myers), with some theorising that it could lead to a ‘big betrayal plot twist’.
Some thought it could be Xavier, considering Wednesday originally thought that he was the Hyde – but others pointed out that he was left extremely distressed at the slightest accusation of being on the bad side.
Meanwhile, another viewer wrote: ‘O really want Wednesday’s stalker to be someone completely random… like it would be so chaotic.’
It’s going to be a while until we find out for sure, so let’s keep those theories coming!
Wednesday is available to watch on Netflix.
