Netflix finally reveals release date for Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction 2 and we don’t have long to wait
We finally have a release date for Extraction 2, after the huge success of the first film broke Netflix records.
Chris Hemsworth has reprised his role of Tyler Rake in the upcoming sequel, with the mercenary tasked with another deadly mission.
Golshifteh Farahani will also be back on our screens, with Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt and Tinatin Dalakishvili rounding out the cast.
Thankfully, we don’t have to wait long for the action as Netflix bosses generously shared the upcoming dates for a string of their original films, confirming that Extraction 2 will premiere on the platform on June 16.
The official synopsis doesn’t give much away, reading: ‘After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.’
Sam Hargrave has returned to the helm for Tyler’s second outing, with Joe and Anthony Russo also back on board.
Extraction was released in April, 2020, and saw the Marvel icon showing off his action skills as the mercenary, who found himself on a mission to rescue the kidnapped son of a crime lord.
The flick quickly shattered records to become Netflix’s most watched original production at the time.
According to CNet, it was viewed by 99million Netflix accounts within the first month of its release.
Chris later took home the trophy for action movie star of 2020 at the People’s Choice Awards, and teased where his character could end up next.
‘We wanted to make a film that was different, unique, exciting, full of action, but really pushed the envelope,’ he said in a pre-recorded speech.
‘I think that we achieved that but none of that was possible without your support so I’m forever in your debt, I love you guys, you guys are the greatest.
‘Thank you to all the other nominees, you guys are an inspiration. Thank you, Joe Russo, for writing the script, Netflix for making the movie and Sam Hargrave for directing, it was one of the most incredible experiences that I’ve ever had on a set so we’re going to try and make another couple more for you.
‘Hope you enjoy, stay tuned and we’ll see you soon.’
‘Just like the narrative of this film, I extracted the win right out from under the noses of some truly fine performances,’ he added alongside the video on Instagram.
‘With brute force and mayhem and little regard for my own safety or anyone else’s I pushed forth to victory only to topple off a bridge and sink to my death….or did I……
‘Not sure, you’ll have to check out the sequel coming soon.’
Extraction 2 is released on Netflix on June 16.
